NikaDimm, можно и отнести, только, боюсь, запутаться в пояснении.
можно примерно так:
February 23 is the Red Army and Navy Day. The holiday was widely celebrated in the USSR (and is currently celebrated in Russia as the Motherland's Defender Day). It became a tradition to congratulate all men with this holiday, maybe due to the fact that military duty was universal for men in the USSR (and Russia). We think Illya would surely celebrate this holiday so here is a holiday card.
Илья непременно должен был праздновать!
Thanks for sharing this in LJ. Well done!
There was a very interesting conversation
was really interesting! Never before compared Red and White in Russia and Britain.
Some people wrote that they did not know about February 23 as Soviet and Russian national holiday. So I started wondering: what about March 8?
Bluemeany is quite outspoken and one of the reasons I like her.
What is March 8 ? Another holiday for you? I am thankful to learn about your culture.

This is a celebration, too. International Women's Day. We know that it is not international, in fact, but it is so called.
How do you celebrate it? We celebrate Mother's Day but not Women's Day. It's kind of sad, but some of our holidays were started by card companies, trying to improve their business.
February 23 is supposed to be Army Day but is celebrated as Men's Day and March 8 is supposed to be International Women's Day (celebrating liberation and equal rights for women) but is celebrated as Women's Day. So first women congratulate men on their holiday and then men congratulate women.
Thanks for letting me know.
I am trying to post a new blog here and for some reason, it's being blocked.
I attempted to post a story to this site. Twice and both times it did'nt post. I was able to do this before, several times. For whatever reason, I'm blocked.
Here is the story. Perhaps members will read it. Illya is much younger and still living in Russia.
Space: It's So Cool - by Otherhawk, A drabble & a half for A Little Drabble Do Ya/Section VII/LJ Posted here with permission.
Fortunately it was a clear night and the stars were twinkling over those breathlessly watching the sky. A chill was in the air, and Illya pulled his coat close around him while he waited for his turn at the telescope Grigory had brought.
A shout rang out. “There! I can see it!”
He looked up, scanning the sky intently until he saw it; a bright light, larger than the starlight pinpricks around it, travelling fast above them. “Oh...”
“It's so beautiful,” Inessa whispered.
The very first artificial satellite was orbiting the Earth. And they – the Soviet Union – they had done this.
“What a time to be alive,” Pavel said, joy and wonder shining through his voice.
From somewhere behind them, someone started singing the State Anthem and one by one they all joined in until they were all singing, united, watching as Sputnik 1 flew overhead.
Лимбо, ещё раз спасибо
You are a good teacher.
Not at all, but thank you too
